Around 100 people donated blood Monday at Bankers Life Fieldhouse for the 2014 Roy Hibbert Blood and Bone Marrow Drive.
This is the second time Hibbert has teamed up with the Indiana Blood Center for the drive. Hibbert partnered with the center, after forming a connection with a patient in his “Area 55″ section.
The Indiana Blood Center reports one pint of blood can save three lives, and it can make a difference quickly.
“What’s donated today, goes into testing tomorrow and can actually be the hospitals as early as later tomorrow. Giving blood is one of the most intimate and quickest forms of community service,” said Shannon Jordan of the Indiana Blood Center.
Pacers fan Brent Warner donated blood at Hibbert’s drive last year, and came back to give more Monday.
“You’re helping out fellow Hoosiers. You may need some blood some day, and if you don’t give there’s no blood,” said Warner.
Donors could also sign up for the bone marrow registry.
Each person that donated blood received a free ticket to Monday night’s Pacers game against the San Antonio Spurs.
